As mentioned in previous news articles, Santos Dumont chose Barretstown as our charity of choice for this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme. For anyone who does not know, Barretstown is a camp for children and their families who are living with a serious illness.
Following on from the Barretstown Dublin Mountain Challenge, for this year’s company off-site, we went to Barretstown to lend a helping hand for the day. We painted, trimmed hedges, collected leaves and got absolutely soaked as the Irish weather did not fail to disappoint by bucketing down at times.
However, we would sign up for it all over again in a heartbeat! For a facility that welcomes children and their families when they are at their lowest points in their lives, the positive energy this camp emits from the moment you step inside is magical. Before we were tasked with our jobs, we were lucky enough to get a tour of the camp. From the theatre filled with costumes, the boat on the lake, the low-level kitchen for baking to the hop scotch on the tarmac – it has it all and more! It is jam packed with fun, uplifting ways to bring smiles back to faces, laughter into the air and belief for all that they can overcome anything that lies ahead.
We were genuinely moved by all the work that is done by Barretstown and the many volunteers and would like to sincerely thank them for allowing us help for the day.
Barretstown must raise €5 million annually to ensure the camp remains open and it’s primarily through fundraising that this is done. We would encourage everyone to visit www.barretstown.org for more info about this wonderful charity and how to help out.
