Biography

Mark is the Chairman of Santos Dumont and a dedicated aviation professional, with more than 25 years industry experience.

He has initiated, negotiated and concluded many and varied complex projects, including new aircraft order campaigns for lessors and airlines, aircraft & engine sales, operating leases, finance leases, debt programmes and joint-ventures. A former senior executive at GPA, Mark also advises on strategy at senior level and has been responsible for designing and implementing many bespoke arrangements concerning disputes and disagreements among airlines, aircraft lessors, OEMs, MROs, insurance companies and sovereign entities, by leading client teams and interacting productively with chairpersons, CEOs and senior management of counter-parties.

As a firm believer in commercial aviation as a ‘force for good’ (particularly in Africa, where he advocates for the establishment of ‘CAFE’, a public-private commercial aircraft finance enterprise), Mark also writes from time to time for trade and other publications (e.g. the Financial Times), is frequently invited to speak at universities, conferences, seminars and training events, and occasionally provides expert analysis on radio and television (e.g. BBC/CNBC).
